Journey Called Life

Travel Philippines: Puerto Princesa Palawan

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page”-Saint Augustine

Beautiful Puerto Princesa: A paradise in Palawan that captured my heart.

Puerto Princesa , the capital of Palawan is the home of 1 of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. We only stayed in Puerto Princesa for 3 days but we had an excellent stay at the Microtel Palawan Resort. The free shuttle service driver picked us up from the airport and drove us to the hotel. It’s about 20 minutes from the airport.

Microtel Palawan:

A beach front hotel in the city at the edge of the Emerald Playa and Nature Park. There is a pool overlooking the beach. The restaurant was located beside the hotel’s pool which made everything more refreshing. They served classic Filipino dishes. It has comfortable room, good facility and service, and the view is wonderful and relaxing. It had a nice beach view balcony. The wifi is available in the room for free.

First Day Tour: Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (Crocodile Farm)

In our adventure, we had the chance to see live crocodile. This Puerto Princesa destination is not just a popular tourist attraction but also a research center for conservation and further studies of Palawan’s endangered species including crocodiles.Crocodiles are not the only animals here. There is a mini-zoo here which houses several species of mammals, reptiles and birds. After seeing the skeletons, the tour guide led us to the Hatchling House where baby crocs are being kept. The Hatchling House is full of white tubs where little crocs are fed. We then proceed to the mini-zoo. It was a nice experience but a little bit scared of those wild animals.

Next Stop:  The Historic Immaculate Conception of Puerto Princesa

Immaculate Conception Cathedral is just one of the tourist attractions in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. It is located along Rizal Avenue in Barangay Liwanag (located across Plaza Cuartel. This used to be a small church during the Spanish occupation (circa 1871).

Plaza Cuartel:

The Palawan Special Battalion World War 2 museum, remnants that remind us of the sacrifice that our warriors suffered to preserve our freedom.

Butterfly Eco Garden and Tribal Village:

Here you can see different species of fluttering butterflies. This ecological garden promotes environmental awareness by means of showcasing a variety of butterflies, other insects and some other endemic and endangered species.

After witnessing the rich biodiversity in the ecological garden, we then proceed to the tribal village. The tribal village aims to give the guests a cultural background of the indigenous people called “Pal’awan”. They will show you their very own musical instruments, hunting tools, etc. I am brave enough to take photos with this huge snake.

Bay walk :From Plaza Cuartel, we went on to the last stop of our city tour, the Puerto Princesa Baywalk where locals and tourists can witness beautiful sunsets while relaxing on top of the dikes, jogging around its pathways, chatting with friends, having a drinking spree, or eating dinner.

Day 2:
Underground River: The River of LoveThe Puerto Princesa Subterranean  River National Park is located about 50km north of the city of Puerto Princesa Palawan Philippines. The boat brought us through bright blue waters to a hidden underground river. Wow! Amazing! How fortunate I was to witnessed and experienced this 1 of the new 7 wonders of the world. Using a torch light to see the different formations inside the cave, we got to see the Virgin Mary, and other various shapes. Thousands of bats were living in caves and helmets were given us to prevent bat droppings fall into our heads. Be sure not to look up and open your mouths or you can taste the bats urine.

Sabang X Zipline:Going up the hill was tiring but once you’re on top and ready to take the ride, it’s definitely worth the experience. The highlight of Sabang X Zipline is the the breath taking view of mountains and the open sea. It was definitely an 800-meter ride of pure fun and excitement.

Day 3: Cowrie Island

A perfect paradise for a beach lovers: Of course our trip will not be complete without swimming  at Cowrie Island. We enjoyed the white sand beach and it’s blue skies. That’s all for our wonderful trip to Puerto Princesa Palawan Philippines. Thanks for reading!
