The Tucson Arizona Road Trip

Fundays are usually equated to road trip days. It means that as a family, we get to travel together and visit places across towns and states. In this adventure, we specifically opted to visit Tucson from Arizona. The travel time only took us about an hour and a half, and we were good to go for a fantastic day adventure. We went to The World’s Famous Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch located at 17599 E. Peak Ln, Picacho, Arizona for the first stop. This Ostrich Ranch was a family business – making the management very hand-on in taking care of the animals.
We enjoyed walking around the ranch. We spent time walking, taking photos, and simply admiring the view and the animals. As I watched the animals, I was reminded of my childhood in the Philippines. Back then, we also lived in a province where we spent time riding carabaos, cows, and horses. My siblings and I enjoyed all the province life had to offer. Fresh air, a serene environment, the sound of birds, and a lot more. As a remote place, the horse was our only one-way transportation. So, the atmosphere was spared from the pollution brought by cars and all other vehicles. Our parents also taught us how to plant crops such as corn, peanut, rice, and vegetables. We raised chickens since they served as our food source when we have visitors or when there were special occasions. Once every three months, my father would head to the city and bring some of the chickens and sell them to buy other essential goods for the family-like salt and fishes. Yes. It was indeed a simple provincial life. But it was filled with happy memories. Those were the precious memories I have had, which this Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch reminded me of.
Feeding the stingrays
Feeding the animals was also one of the available activities in the ranch. They have birds, bunnies, deer, donkeys, ducks, goats, ostrich, and sheep. I experienced feeding a lorikeet. It made me scared and anxious at first, but it turned out to be fun. Some initially landed on my head, and others were on my shoulders. They opened the small cup which we were holding and get the food. Such interactive and engaging activity was a hit for the whole family. Riding the monster truck with a tour guide and touring us around Picacho Peak was also one of our journey highlights. The guide was very informative in giving us the historical background and trivia about the ranch. We held the eggs of ostrich in our hands, which for me, was a bit scary yet exciting.
After the ranch visit, we headed to the Mission San Xavier del Bac, which served as a Spanish Catholic mission. The place was quiet yet refreshing. The back in time vibes of the area gave us some time to enjoy the place’s serenity. Lastly, we visited Kartchner Caverns State Park. We entered the caves and were allowed to see the fantastic rock formations inside. The tour guide was also very informative in giving us the background of the cave. Cameras were not allowed inside for environmental protection purposes, but it was okay. What was important was we got to enter end enjoy the view inside.
So, this Tucson Road Trip was another educational, meaningful, and joyful experience for our family. I hope that you also get the time to do the same thing once given the opportunity. Take care!
